PIP simulator

Our PIP simulator allows children to do some PIP activities on the computer screen instead of on the floor. The simulator has all the PIP buttons plus extra buttons for loading and saving programs, setting a target to aim at, printing the program out and adding/removing a pen. There are also two programmable function keys.

The simulator has a PIP keyboard at the bottom right. The buttons are pressed by clicking the mouse on them. As the buttons are pressed the program appears in text at the top right. When the "Go" button is pressed a PIP icon moves around the main graphics area to the left to execute the instructions. The instruction being executed is highlighted in the text area as it is executed. The PIP icon can leave a trail to show its path.

There are spaces at the top of the screen for the children to enter their name and the name of the program.

At the bottom there are buttons for loading and saving the program. They are saved in separate directories for each child's name and the filename is the program name.

There is also a button for printing the program. The name of the child, the name of the program and the date it was printed are printed as well as any graphics and the text of the program.

There are controls for making PIP leave a trail (equivalent to putting a pen down the middle).

There are two programmable function keys. These allow you to have frequently-used program sequences available with a single keyclick. In the screen shot above, the "star" elements are programmed functions.

You can change the speed at which the simulator runs so that you can slow it down to see how the program executes or speed it up to execute a program quickly.

The PIP simulator only runs on PCs and needs Windows 95 or later. If the screen resolution is less than 1024 by 768 you may lose some of the messages.

The manual for the simulator is here. You can look at this for full information about the capabilities of the simulator.

PRICE GBP20.00 plus VAT

The simulator costs GBP20.00 plus VAT (no P&P obviously!) for a single-user. For multiple users, it costs GBP20.00 for the first one and GBP4.00 for each additional one purchased at the same time.

How to buy it

The simulator is low-cost software. To minimise costs it is only available by download from this website.

You download it first. When you have installed it and run it for the first time, it will ask for your school name and postcode, and a security code before it can be used. You will need to get this information from us. You then need to send us an email specifying the school name and postcode and asking to buy one or more licences from us. Click here to send it. We will email an invoice to you. When payment is received, we will email you the unlocking code so that you can use it.

Click here to download the software. Your browser should ask you where to put the file on disk. It doesn't matter where you put this file. Once you have downloaded the file you will need to run it to install the software. The easy way to do this is to use "My Computer" to navigate to the file, right click on it, and select "Open", or double click on it. Then select "Setup" and follow the instructions on the screen.

When you have the unlocking code you should use the Windows facilities to copy and paste the school name, postcode and security code into the relevant places.
