Return-receipt-to: "Alan James Simpson"
I have been working in the School of Electronic and Communication
Engineering at the University of Plymnouth for the last ten years,
with a particular interest in Robotics.
It has been a disappointment to me that I have never achieved a
sustained interest amongst the students in the Micromouse
competition, as it seems to me a superb final year project. We do now
have plans to set it up on a more permanent footing, with some space
dedicated to it, and a more organised "roll-over" from one year to
the next.
I gather that the IEE has plans to drop the senior 3D competition.
I think this would be a great shame, particularly in view of the
success of the junior schools competition. If this continues to
develop enthusiasm in the schools and colleges, there will be a
knock-on effect into higher education, and consequent demand for a
senior competition. Surely developing interest and enthusiasm in
engineering is what it is all about?
